Washington: The White House will continue its mask mandate even after the indoor masking rule is lifted for public places in Washington, DC.

The White House follows CDC guidance, which recommends masking in areas of high or substantial transmission, Xinhua news agency quoted White House Assistant Press Secretary Kevin Munoz as telling CNN.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the nation’s capital remains an area with substantial community transmission and cases are currently on the rise.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced her decision to drop the mandate last week, but insisted wearing a mask is still a must.

According to city officials, the focus has been on this mandate given the current health metrics and vaccination status.
