US Open champion Emma Radukanu crashed out of BNP Paribas Open after losing successive sets

Emma Radukanu, playing her first tournament since winning the title with a stunning performance at the US Open, crashed out of the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament in the second round after losing in straight sets to Aliaksandra Sasnovich. Radukan lost the match 6-2, 6-4, putting an end to their 10-match winning streak. He was given a wild card entry in this ATP and WTA tournament.

The 27-year-old Sasnovich of Belarus is ranked 100th in the world rankings. She reached the doubles semifinals of the US Open last month while Radukanu started qualifying and became champion at the age of 18.

In other matches, Inga Sviatec defeated Petra Matrich 6-1, 6-3 in straight sets. Number four Ilina Svitolina defeated Tereja Martynova 6-2, 7-5 while ninth seed Anastasia Pavlichenkova defeated Madison Keys 6-3, 6-1.

Simona Halep defeated Marta Kostyuk 7-6(2), 6-1 in another match, while Victoria Azarenka also managed to advance after Megda Lynette pulled out of the half-match.

Shelby Rogers registered an easy victory over Kristina Kuchova 6-2, 6-2. In the men’s section, USA’s Jenson Brooksby and Ernesto Escobedo won their first round matches. Brooksby defeated Sam Ilkel 7-6(5), 6-4, and Escobedo defeated Holger Roon 6-4, 6-1.
