Digital Desk, San Francisco. Short video platform TikTok is testing a new tool that allows users to tip certain creators directly on their profiles. As per a video of the Tips feature shared by TikTok creator Jera Bean, who has seen the in-app feature and applied for approval, the money paid to the creators will go directly to her, reports The Verge.
A screenshot of the application screen states that to qualify for the feature, the account must be in good standing on the platform, have at least 100,000 followers, and agree to the terms of Tiktok’s Tips.
The report states that if creators meet these criteria, they can apply for the tool. However, it is not clear whether all those who apply will be approved or not. Bean Account will now feature a Tips button, which will take users to a page where they can tip creators a custom amount of their choice.
A company spokesperson said, “We are always looking for new ways to bring value to our group and enrich the TikTok experience. Users must be 18 years of age or older to send tips to creators, but it does not appear that users will have to follow the account they are tipping to use the feature.
However, it is being tested on a limited basis. TikTok declined to comment on how widely the feature is available to creators on its platform at the moment.
