New Delhi. Fast bowler Haris Rauf’s career-best bowling helped Pakistan beat New Zealand by five wickets in the Group 2 match of the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup on Tuesday. Recorded second consecutive win by defeating Chasing New Zealand’s target of 135 runs, Pakistan won by scoring 135 for five with eight balls to spare. In this match, in front of the stormy bowling of Haris Rauf, the New Zealand team could only score 134 runs for eight wickets. Rauf took 4 wickets for just 22 runs. After this brilliant bowling of Rauf, an old interview of his is coming out, in which he is telling how he gave a trial by breaking the gate of the stadium.
In a video, Haris Rauf is talking about his first meeting with Aaqib Javed as well as the trial for Lahore Qalandars and Shoaib Akhtar’s record. Haris told that when he came in the beginning, the name of Aaqib Bhai was seen only in TV. There was fear, but if I met him many times, then the fear was over. Whatever is in my heart, I tell them. Aaqib Bhai is very friendly and talks openly.
Describing his trial for Lahore Qalandars, Harif Rauf said, “There was no motive for giving the trial. Was just a friend, he used to play club cricket. I played a match against him. There I bowled very fast. So that friend said that you play well, you can play for Pakistan. I thought it is saying like this, where will I play for Pakistan. Who will feed me?”
He further said, “But he did not consider him a friend. That friend said, let me give the trial of Lahore Qalandars. Although there were trials in my city Pindi, but I did not give. Then at the behest of friends, Gujranwala went from Pindi to give trial. It was 11-12 o’clock, we left at 7 in the morning. The gates in the stadium were closed that now there will be no entry. I said that if you have come here now, then you will have to give a trial.
Rauf said, “The front door of the stadium was closed, so we went backwards, there was a small gate at the back. It was locked. I said break it. You have to go inside. I broke that gate. When the gate was broken, I saw that so many people have come to the stadium. I had never given a trial. Then the friends who had come, they said that there are so many people, where will we be selected. Then I told him to leave all this now. Now that they have come, they give a trial, just take out what is inside. Don’t look at the people.
Rauf told that he kept getting the ball in the lines and kept passing round one after the other. Meanwhile, rice also came for them for lunch. He said, “There was another boy with me, he also came for the fast bowler’s trial. I told him that if you want to get selected then don’t eat rice. If you eat food at this time, it will become heavy and the ball will not be fast. He didn’t eat and I didn’t eat either and we both got selected. In this interview, Haris Rauf said that he wants to break Shoaib Akhtar’s record of fastest bowling.
