New Delhi. Three-time Indian Premier League champions (IPL) Chennai Super Kings on Sunday honored Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra with a check of Rs 1 crore for his historic achievement.
Olympic champion javelin thrower Chopra was handed over a check of Rs 1 crore on behalf of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited here. CSK also handed over the jersey number 8758 (based on the gold medal effort of 87.58m in Tokyo) in Chopra’s honour. Chopra is only the second individual Olympic gold medalist from India after Abhinav Bindra.
KS Viswanathan, CEO, CSK said, “The entire nation is proud of Neeraj for his stupendous achievement. He has set benchmarks by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal in track and field. He said, he is an inspiration for the next generation. The number 87.58 is forever etched in the history of Indian sports and it is our honor to hand over this special jersey to Neeraj.
After receiving the award and the special jersey, 23-year-old Chopra said the last two months have been an opportunity for him to experience new things. He also thanked the CSK management. Thank you for your support and award. Looks good enough.
Chopra said that I never thought that I would get so much love after winning the gold medal. Didn’t expect it and I feel very good. I hope to work harder and get good results.
Chopra became the first Indian to win a gold medal in the athletics event of the Olympic Games by throwing a javelin to a distance of 87.58 meters in Tokyo on August 7.
