Pakistan has included Shoaib Malik in the upcoming T20 World Cup squad in place of Sohaib Maqsood, who has failed to recover from a lower back injury. The MRI scan showed that Maqsood will take longer to recover from the injury. Shoaib Malik was the captain of Pakistan in the T20 World Cup played for the first time in 2007.
Lahore. Pakistan on Saturday announced the inclusion of veteran Shoaib Malik in the team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Shoaib Malik has been included in place of Soheb Maqsood, who has failed to recover from a lower back injury. After an MRI scan of Maqsood’s lower back, it was found that he would take more time to recover from this injury.
Maqsood was earlier included in the 15-member main team. He was injured during a match of the National T20 Cup at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on 6 October. According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), “Sohaib’s exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is disappointing as he worked hard for it and was in great rhythm.”
The board said, ‘After talking to the team management, we have decided to include Shoaib Malik in his place in the team. I am sure Shoaib’s experience will come in handy for the entire team. Shoaib Malik was the captain of the team in the first event of the T20 World Cup in 2007 and was a member of the team that became champions in 2009. He has also played in its 2012, 2014 and 2016 seasons.
