New Delhi. The number of bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has increased to 44 crore in seven years till October 2021. An official of the Finance Ministry gave this information on Friday. The scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address on the occasion of Independence Day on 15 August 2014. It was launched on 28 August 2014 to promote financial inclusion. This national mission was launched to ensure that people have easy access to financial services like banks, remittance facilities, loans, insurance, pension.

Manisha Sensharma, Economic Adviser, Department of Economic Affairs, said in a program organized by industry body ASSOCHAM that PM Jan Dhan Yojana Has enjoyed immense success since its inception. A digital pipeline has been laid to implement PM Jan Dhan Yojana. He said that till October 2021, around 44 crore beneficiaries have been linked with the banks and through this scheme the government has been successful in getting money deposited in their bank accounts from the underprivileged section of the population.

He said that JAM, which links bank accounts with Aadhaar and mobile numbers, has also helped in targeting social sector programs and helping reach the right section of people.

Sensharma said that earlier all the beneficial schemes were being operated by the government but then there was a lot of apprehension whether these schemes were reaching the right people or not. But now through the use of technology, the benefits are now reaching only the eligible and identified beneficiary, hence there is no problem like wastage of resources and leakage.
