Maruti Suzuki plans to launch four more CNG models as petrol, diesel prices rise

New Delhi. The continuous increase in the price of petrol and diesel has increased the demand for CNG vehicles. The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India plans to soon expand its CNG portfolio by introducing four new CNG models.

Maruti 2025 By or after it is also planning to introduce electric vehicles in the Indian market. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said that currently the company has eight models with CNG option available out of total 14 models. We will be adding four more models to this portfolio very soon. He said that we will develop more models and launch more new CNG models.

Srivastava said that the continuous increase in the price of petrol and diesel has increased the demand for CNG vehicles. He said that due to shortage of semiconductors, the company has 2.8 lakh orders pending, of which 1.1 lakh orders are for CNG models.

The running cost of petrol or diesel vehicle has increased to Rs 5 per kilometer, while the running cost of CNG vehicles still remains at Rs 1.7 per kilometer. Apart from the running cost, a petrol or diesel vehicle is almost three times more expensive than a CNG vehicle. This is the first reason why people are suddenly turning to CNG.

The second reason is that the CNG filling station network is expanding rapidly across the country and CNG is now accessible to more vehicle owners. Presently 3400 CNG stations have been installed in 260 cities, whereas till a few years back the figure was 1500 outlets in 150 cities.

Availability of factory fitted CNG option has also helped in increasing the demand for CNG vehicles. Factory fitted CNG provides greater satisfaction to the customers in terms of performance, maintenance and safety.
