Libyan official visits Algeria to seek economic, political support

President of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune received the visiting Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives Aguila Salah Issa.

Aguila Salah has been visiting Algeria since Saturday at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Brahim Bougli, Xinhua news agency reported.

APS news agency reported that the Libyan official met with Bougli on Saturday and they discussed bilateral relations and national reconciliation in Libya.

Aguila Salah said Libya was going through an economic crisis because it needed Algeria’s help and support. Specifying that Algeria is capable of providing necessary assistance to the people of Libya.

He further said that Algerian efforts have been able to promote national reconciliation among the Libyans. It emphasizes the need for Libya to elect a president for an all-out exit from this enduring crisis.

For his part, Bougli reaffirmed that his country remains committed to supporting Libya to get out of its crisis, according to an approach based on a peaceful process through dialogue and national reconciliation.

Bougli specified that Algeria supports Libya’s warring parties by holding elections that would pave the way for a new era in a stable and prosperous Libya.

In February, warring factions in Libya agreed to form an interim government under the auspices of the United Nations, which would rule the country until elections on December 24.
