New Delhi. KS Bharat got a chance to debut in IPL this year and in just 7 matches, this wicket-keeper batsman of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) proved that he shatters under pressure. At least in the match against Delhi Capitals, he proved it. RCB needed 5 runs off the last ball to win this match. The match could have been won only by hitting a six. No one expected that the batsman playing the first season of IPL would do this. But Bharat lived up to the expectations of his captain Virat Kohli and gave the team a thrilling victory by hitting a six off the last ball of Avesh Khan.
There was no limit to Kohli’s happiness and he reached the ground running and embraced this batsman from Andhra Pradesh.
Who is the last KS Bharat, whom Virat Kohli gave a chance to debut in this season of IPL and Bharat left no stone unturned to capitalize on it. Actually, KS Bharat i.e. Kona Srikar Bharat, who plays for Andhra Pradesh in domestic cricket, is originally from Visakhapatnam. For them, traveling till IPL is like a dream come true. From a ball boy chatting with Zaheer Khan in 2004 to sharing the dressing room with the Indian pacer in the IPL, India has come a long way.
Bharat made his first class debut at the age of 19.
Bharat made his first-class debut at the age of 19 against Kerala in 2012-13. But he first came into limelight in 2015, when he became the first wicket-keeper batsman to score a triple century in the Ranji Trophy. Bharat did this feat against Goa in February 2015. Then he started the innings from Andhra Pradesh’s side and played a blistering innings of 308 runs in 311 balls. After this, he did not look back and has rapidly strengthened his identity as a wicket-keeper batsman in domestic cricket.
He has scored 4283 runs in 78 first class matches played so far with 9 centuries and 23 half-centuries.
RCB bought Bharat this year
This wicket-keeper batsman had scored 758 runs in the 2014-15 Ranji season at an average of over 54. On the basis of this performance, he was bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for IPL 2015 for Rs 10 lakh. But due to the presence of Rishabh Pant, Bharat could never make his place in the playing XI. When Delhi released him, RCB caught sight of him and he was added to the team as a replacement for Parthiv Patel. RCB had bought this wicket-keeper batsman for Rs 20 lakh in the auction held in February this year.
Bharat trying to make place in Team India
KS Bharat is constantly knocking on the door of Team India. This year also he got a place in Team India which went on tour of England. He was added to the team as a stand-by for Wriddhiman Saha. Earlier, he was included in the five stand-by players selected for this year’s home series against England. However, Bharat did not get a chance to play.
In domestic cricket, Bharat is counted as a quick wicket-keeper. If he is able to maintain the form like IPL 2021 even further, then he may soon get a chance in Team India.
