‘India closely watching Afghanistan’, says S Jaishankar after meeting Kyrgyz foreign minister

Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan): India on Monday said it is closely monitoring the developments in Afghanistan. Along with this, India also underlined the importance of the Taliban regime fulfilling the expectations of the international community as mentioned in a UN Security Council resolution. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made the remarks during a joint press briefing after a positive meeting with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbayev. Jaishankar arrived here on Sunday as part of a four-day visit to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Armenia.

S Jaishankar said his meeting with Kazakbayev briefly discussed the developments in Afghanistan and its implications for peace and security in the region. “We are closely monitoring the developments in Afghanistan. We are all worried about it. Any instability in Afghanistan will also have an impact on the region. The international community has expectations from the current regime in Afghanistan, which are detailed in UNSCR 2593.

Jaishankar tweeted, “India and Kyrgyzstan share a shared vision of recent developments in Afghanistan.” strengthen. He said that the high level talks between the two countries from time to time have been helpful in further strengthening and expanding the bilateral ties.

Significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had last month called for ensuring that no country tries to take advantage of the situation in Afghanistan and does not use them for their selfish interests.

Addressing the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Modi had also said that it is also very important to ensure that the territory of Afghanistan is not used for the spread of terrorism and terrorist attacks.
