If England start poorly, it will be a long Ashes for them: Vaughan | If England get off to a bad start, it will be a long Ashes for them

Digital Desk, London. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has said that the Ashes tour will be a long one for the Joe Root-led England to start poorly. Vaughan said, “I think England’s Test match team is such a team that if they play well and play well, they are fine. But if they get off to a bad start, it will be a long tour for them.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued a statement on Saturday saying that they have given conditional approval for the Ashes tour. Vaughan, under whose captain England won the Ashes series in 2005, says that Australia can clean sweep in this series as well.

The series could also be 5-0, Vaughan told ABC Sports. In Australia’s last four tours, England have lost twice 0-5 and once 0-4. They won the series 3-1 in 2010-11.

England’s team does not include all-rounder Ben Stokes, who recently underwent finger surgery for the second time. Jofra Archer is also out with an elbow injury but Vaughan believes Root can perform with his batting.
