Gandhinagar: Gujarat on Saturday reported the first Omicron case after a Zimbabwean resident who reached Jamnagar was found infected with a new mutant of Kovid-19.
The nodal officer of Corona of GG Hospital, Jamnagar, Dr. S. Chatterjee told IANS, samples of a 72-year-old Zimbabwean sent to the Biotechnical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad have tested positive for Omicron. The patient is isolated. We have traced, screened all his close contacts and they have tested negative. But we will once again test all his contacts.
As he had returned from Zimbabwe, an African nation and one of the risk countries identified by the authorities, his samples were sent to Ahmedabad for genome sequencing, which came back positive.
It is believed that this person is a resident of Jamnagar, who has been living in Zimbabwe for many years.
He had come to meet his father-in-law on November 28. His doctor advised him to undergo RT-PCR test after he developed fever.
