ECB gave central contracts to 20 players including Malan and Robinson

London. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday awarded 20 players annual central contracts and David Malan, Jack Leach and Olly Robinson have been included in the list for the first time. The ECB has changed its earlier policy in which players were given separate contracts for red ball and white ball.

“Under the new system, 20 players have been awarded annual contracts on the basis of a ‘single’ contract list,” the ECB said in a statement. Several systems introduced in 2016 of awarding separate contracts for red and white balls have been removed.

“The system has been considered in view of the possibility of these players representing England teams in different formats over the next 12 months,” it said. During this, last year’s performance was also taken into consideration.

In addition to twenty central contracts, players were also awarded ‘increment contracts and fast bowling development contracts’.

The ECB said, “This framework includes those players who can play for England but they are less likely to play. This will help in supporting and managing high caliber fast bowlers across all formats.

Jack Crowley, who was dropped from the Test team during the Test series against India, has been given a contract. Haseeb Contract, who replaced Crowley, has not received the contract.

Dom Sibyl also hasn’t got a contract. Moeen Ali has been given a contract despite retiring from Test cricket.

List of centrally contracted players: Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Jack Crowley, Sam Curran, Jack Leach, David Malan, Eoin Morgan, Ollie Pope, Adil Rashid , Olly Robinson, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood. Increment Contracts: Dom Bess, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan and Liam Livingstone. Fast Bowling Development Contract: Saqib Mahmood, Craig Overton, Olly Stone.
