Organizers of the Indian Super League (ISL) on Friday announced an increase of Rs 3 crore in the prize money of ‘Shield Winners’ from the upcoming season, while the amount given to the ISL champions has been cut. Is. The ‘Shield Winners’ given to the team topping the table was introduced in the 2019-20 season. In the last two seasons, its winner was given Rs 50 lakh.

As part of the redistribution of ISL prize money, Football Sports Development (FSDL) has now allocated Rs 3.5 crore for the league winners. The winner of the final ISL champion will now get Rs 6 crore (earlier Rs 8 crore), while the runner-up will get Rs 3 crore (earlier Rs 4 crore).

The other two teams reaching the semi-finals will continue to get Rs 1.5 crore each. The total prize money for ISL 2021-22 is Rs 15.5 crore as before. The winner of the league will get a chance to represent India in the AFC Champions League, the prestigious club football competition in Asia.

FC Goa were the winners of its first season in 2019-20. Mumbai City FC are its current champions, having completed ‘both titles’ as well as winning their maiden ISL trophy in 2020-21. If the Shield winners win the ISL Championship, they will get Rs 9.5 crore (Rs 3.5 crore + Rs six crore). If they remain runners-up in the ISL final, the Shield winners will earn Rs 6.5 crore (Rs 3.5 crore + Rs three crore).

ISL 2021-22 will begin on November 19 with last season’s runners-up ATK Mohun Bagan and Kerala Blasters FC. The match will be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao, Goa.
