Ben Stokes Shares Video of Him Bowling During Nets Fueling Hopes of Ashes Return watch

New Delhi. England all-rounder Ben Stokes has raised hopes of a return to the Ashes 2021-22 after posting a video of him bowling during an indoor training session. Stokes is not part of the England Ashes squad announced earlier this month, which will be in Australia for five Tests later this year. The 30-year-old has been out of action since he suffered a finger injury during IPL 2021 in April. After this he took an indefinite break from cricket to focus on his mental health.

In recent days, he has been sharing pictures and clips of him batting and bowling in the nets, raising speculation that he is set to return to competitive cricket. The England cricket team will leave for Australia in the first week of November for the Ashes series starting from December 8.

England’s performance director Mo Bobat called Ben Stokes’ recent social media activity a “very positive” sign. Even though he said that the cricketer will not be pressured to return for the Ashes tour. Bobat said in an interview to the Daily Mail, “As people are probably looking more broadly, and we have seen internally…. Extremely positive. Stokes will have to bring back the energy and enthusiasm. They have to trust their finger again, which is really important.”

He continued, “Ultimately, given what he has experienced, and where he has been, it is important that he and we move at the right pace for him. There is certainly no expectation or pressure from us. It’s a matter of us supporting Ben physically and yet we need to support him, so that he can continue to progress at the rate he wants and feels comfortable with.”

England pacer Mark Wood told ‘The Guardian’ some time ago how he is not thinking about a possible return of Ben Stokes to the national setup and his only concern is the mental health of his teammates. Mark Wood said, “Stokes has not been named in any player even once. One thing that is at the top of everyone’s mind is that they just want them to get well. Nobody even wants to think about them. We just want him to be right himself and feel happy and do things like that. So not once has it come to anyone’s mind about the Ashes.”
