Apple has filed an appeal against the decision in its major lawsuit against Fortnite maker Epic Games over control of the App Store.
Earlier, Apple had won 9 out of 10 claims made by Epic Games, while losing one. One of those claims was that Apple was illegally using which payment system to allow consumers to make in-app purchases of their choice. But Apple is now appealing the decision that could delay such changes.
According to NCB, the iPhone maker sent a notice of appeal in the Epic Games case asking for a stay of the injunction, which would allow developers to add other in-app payment systems.
If Apple is successful in its request, changes to the App Store’s payment system may not take effect until the end of the case.
Tristan Kosminka, senior director of Apple App Review, filed the appeal on Friday, saying, “My judgment at a high level is that without thoughtful restrictions to protect consumers, developers, and the iOS platform, this change will benefit users, developers and the iOS platform.” Will generally do more damage.
