Beirut: At least two people have been killed and several others injured in a shootout in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
The incident happened during a planned protest by supporters of Hezbollah and Amal Movement against Judge Tarek Bitter probing the Beirut port blasts case, Xinhua news agency reported.
Hezbollah and the Amal Movement launched the protests in response to an arrest warrant issued by Beitar against Lebanese parliament member Ali Hassan Khalil on Tuesday after he failed to attend an interrogation session.
The Lebanese military announced that it was conducting searches in the Tayouneh area near the Justice Palace to arrest the shooters.
Prime Minister Najib Mikati urged the struggle to stop to move forward and avoid sectarian conflict.
